"Video contact in stroke unit"

About: Inverclyde Royal Hospital / Stroke care

(as a relative),

I haven’t been able to video call with my wife for the past 5 days as there seems to be something wrong with their WiFi or the devices, the nurses have reported the matter to the IT and technical depts who have not yet fixed the problem and in some cases I have heard that they are just passing the buck saying it’s not their dept.

Surely during a pandemic when we can’t visit it shouldn’t be left up to the nurses to get these problems fixed. My wife is in the stroke unit in the IRH and has been there for the past 3 months. She is paralysed down the one side and finds it hard to hold a phone for any length of time so we rely on FaceTime. So it would be great if this problem could be fixed sooner or later.

Dear Yllek,

Please accept my sincerest apologies for your recent experiences with video calling your wife. I understand this must be a very difficult time for you and I recognise how important regular communication is for relatives and patients. I have spoken to the team and I am pleased to hear that iPad connectivity has been fully restored and so I hope you have been able to speak with your wife today.

If there are any concerns you would like to discuss please don't hesitate to contact me directly on Victoria.cox@ggc.scot.nhs.uk or by phone on 0141 314 6835.

Kind Regards,

Victoria
