I live in Dunblane and have been attending the Day Medicine for scheduled venesections for a number of years now such as to control the iron level in my blood.
My programme began at the day medicine at the old Stirling Infirmary and has since moved over to Forth Valley Royal. I have seen many changes, some good and some not so good. One constant has been the high quality of attention and service by the nursing team, excellent.
The current set-up of a dedicated venesection consultation room at Forth Valley Royal run by nurse Cathy is exceptional. This set up is marvellous and most efficient, and a credit to whoever thought of a dedicated venesection department. Even more credit to management for supporting it!
Appointment wait time is around 3-4 weeks, which is excellent in itself, but the real plus is that the are seldom any delays to the actual appointment time on the day. Separating out venesections from Day Medicine avoids delays on the day. These delays often resulted in me waiting over an hour whereas now I seldom wait at all and if I do, it is only 5 minutes or so. Long may the current set-up remain!
I would also like to call out nurse Cathy for her professionalism, she is a credit to the NHS.
"Excellent venesection service"
