"Mums breast cancer care"

About: Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary / Cancer care and Oncology

(as a relative),

I need to voice my major concern over my mums breast cancer care in the past 12 months. Initially when she was diagnosed in October 2019 her care was excellent, swift communications & treatment plans in place. She received a scan in December 2019 to show the treatment plan she has choose was working well and told a another scan would be due around May/June 2020.

Unfortunately since then there has been a lack of communication from the team. We understand there is a global pandemic, we have family who work in the NHS. However, living in an area with very low infection rates (until December 2020 that is) we would have expected a delay to her scan yes but we are now January 2021 and still no scan. There has been no communication about the scan being delayed. My mum has wrote asking for an update as her GP in the later months of last year and yet nothing. Mum hasn’t even had a phone call to see how she is doing, it’s as if she has been totally forgotten about by this service.

I am deeply saddened with how forgotten my mum seems to have been by this service.

Dear star82

Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns with us on Care Opinion. I am so sorry to learn of your sadness regarding your mother's cancer care at Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary(DGRI). Understandably you are concerned over the delay with your mother's scan and the lack of communication from the team. You have been very gracious in understanding that the pandemic has had an effect on our services, however your concerns for you mother are entirely understandable I would love to be able to help you and your mother to get some more information, however I am unable to comment on individual cases on this forum. I would urge you to contact the Patient Experience Team to allow us to help you as much as we can.

You can contact the team at dg.dgpatientexperience@nhs.scot. I would urge you to reach out to the team as soon as possible and allow us to assist you further. Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience, I look forward to being able to assist you further

Kind regards

Alexis
