"The staff have been amazing"

Hello I wish to tell my story from a daughters point of view.   My daddy has been in Altnagelvin Hospital now five weeks, he tested positive for covid.   The medical care he has received is excellent, the staff have been amazing.   Initially we where allowed one visit a day to see daddy as he was in a room of his own (ward 42) as he was extremely ill and very vulnerable, he is nearly 84 years of age and had suffered a massive stroke 3 years ago which has affected his mental capacity.

In these times daddys only contact is if we ring him, he does not know when to charge a phone, or to ask to get it charged, simple things like he wants his housecoat on etc, he doesn't remember to ask then he says he is cold.     I'm sure there is loads of elderly on the ward who are missing family contact.

I have worked for the health service for 30 years as office staff.   I have had covid and have had my first vaccine, I would love to give something back, to volunteer a few hours each day, anything to lessen the staff's burden.   Many many thanks again to all the staff who are doing an excellent job.

Thank you for sharing your experience of the "excellent medical care" and "amazing staff" received by your daddy on Ward 42.

I apologise for the delayed response however I would like to reassure you that this feedback was shared with the staff in Ward 42, including Charge Nurse and Lead Nurse.

Normally when postings are received a member of the ward staff would respond directly, however as they are extremely busy during these unprecedented times I have been asked to convey their heartfelt gratitude to you. They really appreciate your feedback during these really challenging circumstances for everyone including patients and their relatives.

You highlighted the "simple things" that can make all the difference, by sharing your experience and observations. This is something that can be and will be explored.
