I was surprised to be told by my GP that I was in danger of getting diabetes, as I thought I had a good diet.   I was very anxious to take part in the programme as I am the sole carer for my wife who is an insulin dependent diabetic.   Malachy has been very supportive.   He helped me get my computer sorted for the Zoom meetings.   I am now in the 9th session.   I have managed to reduce my weight from 86 kilograms to 74 and my BMI is now 24. 2. I have reduced my waist size from 38ins to 36 and feel a lot better.   I am very grateful for the opportunity to hopefully avoid becoming a diabetic as I know from personal experience with my wife the consequences

Good Afternoon

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience of the Diabetes Prevention Programme in the Southern Health and Social Services Trust. I am delighted that the Diabetes prevention programme has enabled you to make changes to your lifestyle and reduce your risk of developing type 2 diabetes. The service has under gone some changes in the last number of months due to Covid pandemic and has been adapted to an online service using ZOOM instead of a face to face group setting. With the emerging evidence that those diagnosed with Diabetes are among the most effected by Covid this give further validation for the need of a Diabetes prevention service with in the trust.

I have shared this feedback with the wider Diabetes Prevention and they are delighted with this feedback and your progress.
