"They made a huge difference"

About: Dumfries & Galloway Community Services / STARS (Short Term Assessment Reablement Service)

(as a carer),

On December 14 2020, my husband suffered a stroke and was admitted to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary. He was discharged on December 24 and I assumed responsibility for his care. My nursing and medical experience is pretty well zero, so I was clearly nervous about how I was going to cope.

However, we were referred to Stars (Short Term Assessment Reablement Service),who for the next ten days provided invaluable back-up for us.  Without exception their workers were empathetic, knowledgeable, practical, professional and above all KIND.  In this time of isolation due to COVID-19, just to have the reassurance of their daily visits and encouragement made a huge difference.

They are indeed stars and I would like to express my deep gratitude for all they did for us.

Dear Echenevex

I am so pleased to read that you and your husband gained reassurance and encouragement on how to regain confidence and independence following his Stroke and time in hospital. I hope this supported both of your confidence and belief in positive recovery and remaining as active as possible.

Thank you for taking the time to let us know how this experience felt for you. I will be sure to pass this onto the team who are always keen to understand and improve.

Should you or your husband experience any concerns in the future or if you are unsure where to get advice please call 030 33 33 30001 where colleagues will be happy to advise and direct you.

kind regards

Wendy
