I feel the need to write and compliment the outstanding care I received recently from one of your Sonographers at a recent 12 week pregnancy scan appointment.
So far my experience with the maternity service has been poor, from my booking information being lost, it being near impossible to make any contact with the community midwife, no communication and finding myself chasing my own appointments, and then COVID meaning my partner cannot attend out 12 week scan as the room is too small...even though we were told he can attend the 20 week scan in the same room?! Other trusts updated their guidance according to the government updates, but Musgrove have not. We paid for a private scan as feel the hospital ruin this experience for expectant parents when their reasoning makes no sense.
When I attended for my 12 week scan, apprehensive and struggling with being alone for this appointment, the sonographer was just wonderful. Super friendly, chatted through everything that would happen, took time finding the perfect pictures of our baby and explaining what could be seen. Their whole manner made such a difference to what's been a disappointing and messy journey so far.
I am also an NHS staff member and I feel it's important to share my experience from a patient perspective. The whole experience with the midwife has been disappointing so far, which in all honestly makes me nervous for the rest of my pregnancy journey, but I feel the sonographer really did make a difference and deserves some individual recognition.
