I was admitted with Covid-19 in respiratory distress. Across seven days to my discharge on Monday, I battled to regain and retain oxygen saturation. I was moved from A&E to the Acute MU Wards 511, 515 & the numbered bed bays during my stay. The charge nurse recognised that another patient and I were helping each other in the first 24 hours and took it upon themselves to reunite us on day 4 onwards and that intervention was crucial. We both walked out unaided on the same discharge day. The oxygen therapy I received saved my life. Every doctor, charge nurse, nurse, healthcare assistant, cleaner, Porter was exemplary. The double PPE protocols destroy their available time. Almost all have already contracted COVID themselves. They are saving lives every day whilst working with their own active trauma. They deserve long respite and backfill of resources, reward and counselling support. They are absolute heroes who are saving whole families. There is nobody more admirable on the face of this planet.
"Heroes deserving of better support"
