"999 call on Christmas night"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a service user),

My father in law who has mild copd and asthma took a panic attack on Christmas night. He was struggling to breath. Upon calling 999, the call handler was fantastic and really helpful. She remained calm under pressure and was able to calm the Family within the home.

The first responder Andrea arrived. She had the most appropriate direct and professional attitude for my father in law. She showed care and compassion throughout her intervention. Her ambulance colleagues also attended (sorry I don’t have their names).  Both were very professional and helpful to Andrea and the family throughout her input to my father in law.

Thanks again for all your help! It allowed my father in law to remain at home and avoided admission to hospital. Something we are very keen to avoid at this time!

Dear

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us on Care Opinion.

Firstly, please let me apologise for the length of time it has taken me to respond to your story, I would normally reply within 48 hours. We have recently gone through a migration of our email addresses and I have not received any notifications so was unaware that yours, and others stories had been published. I am now in the process of working with Care Opinion to ensure that the email addresses of our staff within the Service is amended to ensure notifications are successful.

I would like to say that I am so sorry to read that your father in law had reason to use our Services. I do hope that he is now feeling better.

However, I am really pleased to read about the experience he and his family received from our staff and if you would like, I can pass on your comments to the staff involved. We would be more than happy to do this. You can do this by completing our feedback form here and someone will be in contact.

Keeping patients at home when it is suitable is something that is so important and it would appear that there has been some really good shared decision making. This is a great piece of feedback to read.

I would like to wish you all the very best and thanks again!

Kind Regards

Alan
