"Awful service Part 1"

About: The Sides Medical Practice

Visited practice as no trace of prescription for my terminally ill wife at adjacent pharmacy. Member of reception staff opened window and told me I had to go home and telephone to explain problem as didn't have computer to hand. Didn't explain why it was impossible to walk back into office to access computer and deal with my enquiry there and then. Complete waste of time asking for commonsense to prevail. Therefore walked back home to repeat over the 'phone precisely what I had asked face to face. I was then given the answer which enabled me to then walk back to the pharmacy and collect the prescription. Fortunately I am pretty fit and live a short distance away but what if I had been over 80 years old with difficulty walking and/or breathing?

No doubt the person with whom I spoke was acting on instructions from the practice manager or senior partners. This being the case it would appear that the practice sets itself extremely low standards but ones which it should find little difficulty in achieving.

I have left this review anonymously in order to protect my wife's identity but the practice are fully aware of my identity.

Dear Patient

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your recent visit to the practice.

We are extremely disappointed to hear of what happened given the support you required at the time.

The system of asking visitors with prescription queries to telephone the practice was put in place shortly after the COVID-19 outbreak, in an attempt to protect patients and staff

However, there are circumstances where that is not the most effective way to care for someone, particularly when dealing with a query that concerns someone who is terminally ill.

A communication has been sent to the team of staff that work on the reception desk, to remind them of the established systems and process the practice has in place to support terminally ill patients and the people who provide care to them.

We are extremely sorry the service provided to you was not satisfactory, and will endeavour to ensure this does not happen again to anyone else in a similar situation.

Kind regards,

The Sides Medical Centre
