Our daddy, was admitted to Antrim area hospital earlyDecember. Initially he was brought in for a uti. He then tested positive for covid the following day. As he was placed into a covid ward, we had no access to him. He has fairly advanced dementia and is unable to use a mobile phone independently. We have found the communication with him really difficult and upsetting. When we eventually get through to the ward, we are often told the ward is busy or it’s changeover or he is too tired to talk. On the few occasions we have spoken to him, it has lifted his spirits and he was able to speak to us. We are very upset that now we can’t even get speaking to him as we know he loves to hear from us. We often feel we are bothering the ward. We understand the pressures of nhs but surely we have a right to speak to our father at this time. There has been no mention of attempting face time for us. As a patient of dementia we feel there should be more of an effort made to accommodate him communicating with us. Also we are in the dark as to his progress or care plan in place. We have requested an update on several occasions. Please can someone help us... we only want to know how he is and also to get speaking to him.
