I have had crohns disease since I was in my early 20s. I am now 44. My journey has been eventful with many ups and downs. Since Dr Naismith and Alan, Seth and Fiona the IBD specialist nurses at the RAH have taken over my care my treatment and journey although hard have been much more efficient and positive. Whenever I felt a crohns flare starting I was able to contact the nurses immediately by email and generally got a reply the same day or the next day and treatment started quickly when needed. I have been on many medications which have all worked initially and some for many years. Every time I needed to change medication this was a swift process due to Dr Naismith and the IBD team. Biologics worked for me and gave me my health back for many years. Eventually I got to the end of the line with medications and was spoken to by Dr Naismith and I agreed ileostomy was the way forward. This again was arranged very promptly. I am a staff nurse myself and I honestly believe my care could not have been better and Dr Naismith and the IBD nurses have made this possible.
