"CBT For generalised anxiety disorder"

About: Inclusion Thurrock (Talking Therapies)

(as the patient),

I Felt anxious, on edge, irritated, worrying all the time and couldn't sleep.

I didnt trust anyone and didnt feel in control of my life. I was also extremely negative in everything.

My GP recommended I get in touch with inclusion so I referred myself. After a long conversation with a very nice and non judgemental lady about what was going on with me on an hour telephone call, after a few months I was offered ÇBT sessions and was paired with a therapist. An amazing therapist called Nicola.

I had 7 CBT sessions on the telephone with nicola.

After soon identifying my symptoms with generalised anxiety disorder she began each week giving me tools and techniques to use and would always come up with different things and ways for me to get a better understanding of the unhelpful thoughts I was having and how to deal with these in a better way. She never made me feel stupid or silly and never judged me. She completely understood what was going on in my head.

I now feel more confident and feel in control of my life for the first time in a very long while. My friends and family have noticed a change in me, a more positive one.

I'm not saying that's it, everything's all better. What I can say is that I now have the tools and techniques for the future if I need to use them.

My only regret is not referring myself sooner.

I cannot thank inclusion and Nicola enough.

This really has been life changing for me and I am extremely thankful for that

I feel confident for the future.

Dear Sammyj123,

Thank you for providing such a detailed story about your time with Inclusion.

I think you have described some of the very common symptoms of anxiety and ones that many people will experience but not seek help for. I am so pleased that you were recommended Inclusion as we really are here to help people no matter what difficulties they may be experiencing. I think you highlight this well with your comment “my only regret is not referring myself sooner.” Often we hear clients say that they have put off seeking help in the past and this is something we want to change. Asking for help is a courageous step but one that can provide so many benefits, as you have explained.

I am pleased to hear that your first contact with Inclusion was positive, often the first assessment can be daunting for people who haven’t experienced therapy before so, thank you for sharing that it really is just a conversation with no judgement in any way.

It sounds as though you have taken so much from your CBT sessions, including tools, techniques and developing an understanding of your personal thinking styles. You have summed CBT up perfectly, in that it is a therapy aimed at providing practical techniques to manage difficulties. The most important part is understanding that therapy is just the first step of your journey and it sounds as though you have both the confidence and tools to continue your progress.

Thank you once again for sharing such a personal story.

We really do wish you the very best for the future.

Kind regards,

Jade
