"Too slow"

About: University Of Bristol Dental Hospital

I had two initial appointments during the first an X ray was taken but showed nothing wrong and so I was given some jaw exercises to do and some antidepressant tablets to see if that helped with the pain in my jaw. On the second some bloods were taken and I was referred to have a more in depth X ray and given some more tablets and told I needed an appointment to be made for six weeks, the nurse said she would make that appointment for me. An appointment came for the X ray which I went and had in July by this time my tablets had also run out! I heard nothing from the hospital and so after 8 weeks rang to query what was happening to be told I would hear soon, to cut a long story short and after a further phone call when I told because of Covid they were running behind, five months later I got a follow up appointment to be told the X ray had picked up that I have an infection in my tooth. So for all these months I have been suffering in pain when if they had reviewed the X ray sooner with in the six weeks that could have been avoided. They are now writing to advise my dentist of the result, no idea how long that letter will take. I either will have to have my tooth out or a root filling, as one of the reasons my usual dentist referred me to the Dental hospital was because he didn't feel confident to do a root filling, telling me using only his eyesight he could miss something I guess I have to wait again in pain to be referred elsewhere. I realise because of Covid things are slower but having the evidence of what is wrong and waiting five months to act upon it is not good enough.
