"My pandemic pregnancy"

About: Aberdeen Maternity Hospital / Obstetrics (Maternity care)

(as the patient),

My pregnancy was pretty text book despite being in a pandemic. Our team violet midwife Claire was amazing from start to finish. Near the end I had some issues with water retention which saw me in triage.Unfortunately this was a farce and 3 days of my life I wasted sitting in a waiting room because I was forgotten about.

Fast forward to 40 + 1 weeks and my induction was booked for the Sunday. Well thankfully baby must've known I wasn't going to be seen so kick started my contractions and by the time AMH called at 730pm that night to say it wasn't going to happen that night I was contracting. I ended up back in triage and the midwife who seen me was less than caring. After a brutal examination I was sent home to stick it out. Fast forward another 24 hours and we went back to triage. Our trainee midwife this time was amazing and informed us we were 7cm dialated so weren't going home, I was being moved to the midwife unit.

I had hoped to get the pool and my guardian angels must've been looking over me as I got it. Unfortunately our midwife Claire was on holiday and the on all midwife was sick so we had a lovely AMH midwife who looked after us until the end of her shift. However at this point it became apparent that baby was turning the wrong way so with a change of midwife we were taken through to the labour ward. It was quickly decided that we were going to need help so with our team violet midwife nicola we were taken through to theater with a couple option. After the surgical team assessed it was deemed too dangerous to wait any longer so an emergency c section was our only choice. The surgical team were amazing, nicola was amazing and our healthy baby daughter was delivered shortly after. Its not exactly how we expected birth to go but all staff were fantastic and each midwife we encountered came to visit us in recovery or the ward which was amazing and so kind of them. My team violet midwife Claire and her cover nicola plus aimee who visited me at home while in labour were fabulous! I have never felt so comfortable and cared for by health professionals. The AMH midwives, surgical team, recovery staff and ward nurses were amazing too. The labour was long and unexpected but in all honestly I can't say it was traumatic because of the level of care I received! Everyone to the Sharon the ward receptionist were so kind! I didn't enjoy triage and the midwife, but one minor issue out of a whole 9 and a half months in a pandemic is nothing. Thank you AMH and team violet for everything!
