"Child birth"

About: Maternity / Home from Home Maternity / Labour Ward

(as a service user),

Gave birth in the Ulster in May, right in the middle of lockdown. I was induced on a Sunday and our beautiful boy was born on Monday. I felt so anxious going in and throughout my induction. There was some staff on the ward but only maybe 2 or 3. They were lovely and friendly but left me to it and kept my curtain around me shut. Weirdly there wasn't another person in the ward, made it even weirder. The midwife who was there at night wasn't the nicest, and made some remarks that I'll never forget.

Waters broke through the night, once there was a staff change (not sure of timings) things honestly couldn't have been better the staff, midwives, doctors and a student were all absolutely fantastic. Made me feel so as ease and comfortable. We were moved to the ward later that day and said a sad goodbye to my husband. Again the staff in the ward downstairs were amazing! They helped me so much, I was finding it hard to stand and was bed bound for a while to recover. And they were brilliant. Anytime I buzzed they were straight in. Very helpful. They were fantastic with our son too. Helped me feed him and bathe him etc. Also the food was lovely too. Haven't much to complain about, just one person but that won't take away from how amazing everyone else is! Can't sing their praises high enough.

Dear ACAL,

I would like to congratulate you on the birth of your baby boy last May. I am sure it was an anxious time for you having your baby in lockdown. I am delighted to hear that the majority of staff that were involved in your care made you feel so at ease and comfortable and helped you recover while caring for your son. However I am sorry to hear that you did meet one staff member who did not meet this standard and I would like to apologise for any unpleasant comments that were made. I would like to thank you for taking the time to share your experience and I will share your comments with these teams for teaching and learning purposes.

Kind Regards

Sarah
