"Delay to normal services"

About: General practices in Ayrshire & Arran NHS Ayrshire & Arran

(as a service user),

I am speaking on behalf of my wife who is suffering badly from rectal bleeding and pain since July 2020. The doctors at our surgery have done their utmost to help her by prescribing medication but she is still suffering a lot. I accept the coronavirus must have an effect on normal service but to watch her in so much pain is distressing.

Dear doneman

I am so sorry to hear of your wife's pain and discomfort. I am sure we all agree that this is not what we want for any of our patients, however, its important to recognise the impact that the current pandemic has had on our health services.

May I ask has your wife's GP submitted an urgent referral? Whilst we try to remobilise all our services safely, we will be appointing people using a triage system so those with the greatest need are seen promptly. We do recognise however that a number of our services had been significantly impacted and in some instances, waiting lists are extensive. Please be assured we are doing what we can to safely reduce these waiting times.

If I can help at all, please get in touch on; laura.harvey@aapct.scot.nhs.uk

Kind Regards

Laura
