I had a pretty eventful and traumatic labour and birth which involved being rushed from the home from home unit to labour ward to being rushed to theatre due to baby’s heart rate not recovering to being back to continue my labour (after baby recovered) to ending with an unplanned section due to baby not turning at the end of my delivery. All staff I encountered were fantastic, the doctors, surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses and midwives. They all made sure my partner and I knew what was happening at each point of my labour especially during the stressful points where either myself and/or baby were distressed in some way.
Special mention to my midwife who was with me from labour ward to delivery in theatre and in recovery the next day (Claire). She was an amazing support and held my hand when my husband couldn’t be with me at times. I wouldn’t have been able to do it all without her. She stayed 2hrs past her shift time just to see me through my c section (my worst fear) and see my baby girl being born. The care I received from start to finish from all staff was second to none especially during covid-19 times.
