Following a series of traumatic events, I suffered from chronic anxiety for years. Despite therapy such as CBT and Mindfulness, normal activities like shopping and socialising were extremely difficult for me and I was often unable to leave the house. I was referred to Ian who described a therapy called EMDR and suggested I try it.
EMDR involves listening to a regular, repetitive beat while focusing on either a pleasant memory or picturing yourself coping with an unpleasant event. It was described to me as moving or updating the memories of the trauma.
It sounds far too simple to be effective, but after only four sessions I found myself able to go shopping in our local town and I even went into a cafe on my own, for the first time in over four years. Simple things like walking the dog, which I avoided in the past, I now enjoy, even stopping to chat to other dog walkers. I feel as if not only have I got my life back, but my children have at last got a mum who can look after herself as well as them.
Ian was so kind and empathetic it was easy to relax and be confident in the therapy. EMDR was an extremely positive experience for me and I thoroughly recommend it to anyone suffering from anxiety.
"Thoroughly recommend EMDR"
