"Huge wait time"

About: Queen's Hospital (Romford)

After being referred by gp who said they would get me an ambulance but the wait time for the ambulance would be 2 hours I was instructed to go to a&e asap so my other half brought me immediately. I was put in a queue to have basic tests which took ages and no seats were offered bearing in mind I had been in bed unable to move for 4 days so was extremely dizzy. I was passed around departments before reaching majors B. I was the fourth in the room so didn’t expect to be waiting too long considering I had already been at the hospital for 3 and half hours. I waited for 3 and half hours more in majors b and seemed to be put to the bottom of the list. I was suffering with dehydration was offered no food or drink for the duration of my visit and decided to approach the reception to find out why I was being left until last. I was then told there were 2 more people before me in the queue to be seen. I was eventually seen after 7 and a half hours at the hospital and put on a drip and sent home. On arrival they knew I was dehydrated from my referral so I can’t begin to understand why they couldn’t have put me on a drip in the waiting room. When I was sent home I still had low blood pressure but I got the impression they just wanted my seat for the next patient as as soon as I got up someone was thrown in my seat. I didn’t feel well cared for at all and I do appreciate the pressure they are under right now but 7 and half hours seems such an extreme wait time and today (I visited yesterday) I feel like I’m right back to the beginning again and really don’t know what to do.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback, I am so sorry to hear about the wait that you encountered. Unfortunately, we are unable to determine the number of patients that are going to need to access our Emergency Department on any one day, therefore sometimes the wait to be seen is longer than we would like. All patients attending our Emergency Department are triaged and are clinically prioritised in order. I am however so sorry to hear about the wait you encountered. If you would like to discuss your concerns further, please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 01708 435 454 or by email bhrut.pals@nhs.net and they will do all they can to help you. Once again, thank you for taking the time to provide us with you feedback.

Kind Regards

Michele Elliott
