At the end of October I was admitted for 5 days. I was classed as a shielding patient as I am on chemotherapy.
I was taken from A&E to Whiteparish ward and stayed there for 3 days and then moved to Pembroke ward. During my stay I can report that my medical, nursing and food were of a very high standard. However the cleanliness of Whiteparish ward fell well below standards I would have expected. The single room I was in was not cleaned the whole 3 days I was there and the floor was also dirty when I first arrived. I was told that they had allocated me a separate bathroom and put a sign on the door but it was obvious other patients were using it. When questioned I was told that they could not provide me with a dedicated bathroom and offered me a commode which I refused. I asked for wipes and sanitised the bathroom myself every time I used it. I do not blame the cleaning staff as their day was taken up cleaning corridors and bathrooms that patients had soiled. There was only one cleaner for a very large ward.
I was moved to Pembroke ward where the cleaning was excellent and the next day my room was cleaned throughly even though it had been cleaned before I arrived.
It was then I realised how unsafe I was on Whiteparish ward and considering Coronavirus as well as being on chemotherapy.
"Excellent care shame about cleaning"
