"Mole that appeared from nowhere"

About: General practices in Forth Valley Outpatients Centre / Dermatology

(as the patient),

In May this year I noticed a mole on my left side and thought nothing of it, however, every time I got out the shower I would check to see if it was growing or changing shape. I am a worrier and thought the worst, losing sleep, not eating, getting down, so I called the doctor just to be sure but due to COVID I couldn’t have a face to face appt and attempted to show the doctor my mole by video link which didn’t work well. So I made another appt and asked to see someone. The doctor said the mole didn’t appear sinister however she noticed another mole which needed a dermatologist to look at as it had irregular edges with different brown and black tones. I got more worried and as time was passing by and the long wait for my dermatology appt, I was in a bit of a mess thinking the worst.

Waiting for an appt was taking too long so in September I went to see a private doctor who took both moles off and it would take another 2weeks for the results! More waiting! And in fact it wasn’t 2 weeks, it was 6 weeks when I got a call to say "you need to come in, the doctor wants to go over your results!" - Jesus! I also received my NHS dermatology appt for the same day as receiving my mole results so this was a big day for me! The results confirmed the (2nd) mole was atypical and the sample provided wasn’t large enough to show all irregular cells were captured - I was disappointed with this private doctor to say the least as this meant I would need another op again! I took my results to my NHS appointment that evening and the person I saw there explained everything and was so reassuring and put my mind at rest! I really wanted to hug them. That was the best news to hear after months of waiting!   Scheduled my appt for that Friday - I was gobsmacked how quick! So on Friday 13th I was greeted by two lovely staff members, who were absolutely brilliant and I want to personally thank the staff at Stirling for being so caring, professional and great teamwork! ! Amazing ladies, proud to work for the NHS! !
