"Left in soiled condition"

About: Darent Valley Hospital

Current in-patient, vulnerable 88 year old provided picolax and left with commode for toiletry despite regular use needed. During late shift commode overflowed due to constant use, patient and room soiled. Despite being alerted, left to clear himself up and room etc left soiled to sleep in until morning time. Patient describes extreme humiliation. Unable to communicate directly with PALS as unavailable, unable to assist patient due to lockdown practice. We are all let down.

Thank you for taking the time post this feedback which is very disturbing to read. We would like to investigate the concerns you have raised, as this is certainly not the care we would expect our patients to receive.

If you are able to contact the PALS Office on the patients behalf that would be beneficial, the PALS details are: 01322 428382 or email dgn-tr.PALS@nhs.net. However, if the patient would like to speak to somebody directly, please ask them to speak to the Nurse in Charge of the ward.

Please accept our apologies that this has happened and let us have the opportunity to put what we can, right.
