"Reassuring student nurse"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Ophthalmology

(as the patient),

My first eye injection. I felt anxious   The whole team was great. Everything was explained and care was taken to ensure I understood what was happening.

I would like to bring your attention to the student nurse in the injection clinic. Unfortunately I didn’t record her name. She was a calming influence throughout the procedure, Making sure I was completely settled and generally reassuring me throughout the procedure. She made a rather unpleasant procedure bearable through high level communication skills including good listening and showing she understood my situation. She was caring and professional throughout. Had she not introduced herself as a student and been wearing a student uniform I would never have suspected/ known she was a student.

I have to return for several more injections and I am considerably more confident about them as a direct result of the student nurse's care

I am pleased to hear that you had a good experience here at the Eye Unit.

I have fed back to the student nurse, and to the rest of the staff in the department.

Many thanks for taking the time to share your positive feedback, and we look forward to seeing you back for more injections!
