"Poor care - Ward 10D"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Orthopaedics (Wards 10a, 10b, 10c &10d)

(as a parent/guardian),

My elderly relative had recently been discharged from ward 10D in the QUEH in Glasgow following an emergency surgery after breaking her ankle. The overall cleanliness of the ward was very poor, and she even stated that after she was assisted to the toilet using a bed pan that the staff member helping her do so poured the urine down the sink as opposed to disposing of it correctly in the sluice. There was also several times she was left soiled in her own urine because staff members wouldn’t attend to the buzzer. I wouldn’t usually complain as I know how stretched the service is, but that’s 2 family members that have been admitted to this ward and received terrible care.

Dear Pepperbq45

I am sorry to hear that your relative broke her ankle and I hope it is healing well.

I am disappointed to read about your relative’s experience in hospital. This is not the standard of care we expect for our patients and I have passed your feedback on to the senior management team responsible for Ward 10D and asked that they respond to your concerns.

Please pass on my sincere apologies to your relative.

Kind Regards

Nicole
