Receptionists that do not have the required medical qualifications or training are a danger to patient health. I phoned multiple times the other day before I got through to be told no one could speak to me today despite me having a terminal condition and severe underlying long term medical health issues - overall the doctors are very competent and professional and many are exemplary GP’s and the personification of what 1st class health care should be
It’s such a shame that the first point of contact you get at this clinic can be totally ambivalent to your needs - when you are ill or in distress or pain how would you like to de dealt with?
I suggest this should be a driving question and service objective for support staff - we all appreciate it’s a difficult job but if you don’t have any compassion or motivated by caring for others perhaps this isn’t the ideal role for you
It is also a safeguarding issue that reception is regularly unmanned and that reception staff seem to act as a triage service without the prerequisite qualifications - I fear one day this will land the practice in a lawsuit for lack of duty of care
"Good doctors; support staff less so "
