"Life limiting"

About: Heartlands Hospital

My sister has a life limiting illness and unfortunately Heartlands is the nearest A&E, although her treatment team are at QE. Previous admissions meant not contacting family for 2 weeks as help to do this was not provided. There is little time now left for her and we only found that out because a family member would not budge from reception until spoke to a doctor. The palliative care team had not been contacted, which the Marie Curie nurse did for us today. However now we find that she has contracted Covid at the hospital, either in AMU or Ward 12 where you would expect processes to be rigorous for virus control. It is now unlikely that I will see my sister alive. Our experience of this hospital has been extremely frustrating and psychologically traumatic.

Dear Anonymous

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about your sister’s care and treatment at Heartlands Hospital. It is disappointing to hear that you did not feel the communication between the hospital and your family was poor. That your sister has contracted Covid and the frustration you are feeling regarding her care. We are sorry that certain aspects of her experience are so negative. Senior staff are keen to listen to your concerns in more detail and to take any necessary action. For this to happen please make contact with the Patient Services Team on 0121 424 0808 or you can email your concerns to uhb-tr.Complaints-ConcernsandCompliments@nhs.net who can then take the necessary action.

Kind regards

Patient Experience Team
