"Really let down by basic care requirements"

About: Willowbrook Medical Centre (Jg Astles)

I called my GP to get an appointment for my throat. I was immediately asked if i had a coronavirus test of which I had and had negative result yesterday. I was then told I couldn’t be seen by GP I would have to call 111. I called 111 and had a phone appointment by a professional nurse. The lady took my symptoms and said I would definitely have to see my GP. I explained that they sent me to 111 and was told it was their responsibility to see me and as I had a negative covid test they would need to complete appointment. I called back to GP again. I was told they couldn’t see me, couldn’t offer an appointment and was told to go into A&E. To me this is a disgrace. This GP surgery is actively sending people into already over subscribed accident and emergency services for something that they NEED to deal with. I can imagine if this was the experience that I have had myself, that many others needing basic medical care will have had the same. The surgery needs looking into for poor practise.

We are very sorry you have had difficulty, and appreciate that the advice you received was confusing. The standard procedure for 111 is to refer you to one of the HUBS, which have been set up in order to help deal with GP overflow. Please contact the practice manager so that we can find out more about your contact with both ourselves and 111 and investigate further to ensure this does not happen for other patients.

You can also ask the practice or 111 to refer you to one of the local HUBS. These have been opened by the local Clinical Commissioning Group to deal with the overflow from GP practices in the area
