"Death and being let out of hospital to come back"

About: Peterborough City Hospital / Geriatric Medicine

(as a carer),

Death in hospital and being let out of hospital to come back Ward A9 Peterborough

So it repeated again this time my mother died so the hospital has learnt nothing. I've  talked to the funeral directors who say this is happening a lot with peterborough where people are let out of hospital not well - usually the beds are needed and reviewed every hour but not someone vulnerable like an old mother of 86.

My mother was let out of hospital on a Friday last month, I got a call from A and E around 11.00 pm on Saturday telling me to come to A and E and I was worried and concerned. I waited for a long while to be told she would not be on fluid and IV and would not have any more bloods taken and her kidneys were not good and her oxygen. she had been in hospital a day before so it more done to her care that she did not have and was not given enough liquid while in hospital while in B1 and this was likely the result or added to the result.

I was told they would wait until the morning and review the situation to start on other treatment. At no time did I have the idea it was the end and there was no hope. we were rushed away to my mother before I could get more information and then she was taken to ward A9 which I have been to many times.

The lack of support and care carried on getting worse. The main nurse in charge of my mothers care seemed cold, uncaring, withdrawn, unhelpful and did not give support or much help and did not explain things when she was asked. They were cold as stone. now I am aware of complaints and wards have been given Macmillian care training to help with dealing with death and the loved ones, as part of complaint promise, so this was disgusting and I did not need this while my mother was out of it.

In the morning when I asked for help, as fluid was coming out of her mouth and I was alarmed. The main nurse took their time and took ages to give the injection which they did not explain and did not make any difference. I had to put a huge complaint a few years ago about failed discharges from hospital 3 times in a row and coming back to hospital on the same day or the day after, so this should not have happened this time and there is no excuses and it makes the reply and remedies incompetent and medically unprofessional, as all those times could have led to death but this time it did and the hospital should have been learnt lessons and not done it again
