"GP Uncaring when in agony"

About: Hassengate Medical Centre

I was in acute off the scale dental pain, had already been to dentist who could only prescribe antibiotics and pain relief (Zapain) but this was ineffective, so was advised to contact my GP for further pain management. On contacting the surgery, the GP rang me back and advised that because it was dental related issue, it was not my GP's problem, said she wouldn't prescribe any pain relief, and to go back dentist or A+E'. I explained that I wasn't looking for assistance with the dental issue, but purely pain management as my dentist doesn't have the prescribing authority for the pain management I required, but she was not interested whatsoever. I find this totally outrageous, and her actions were placing me at risk during Covid 19 when we are supposed to be avoiding going to A+E, especially as Basildon Hospital is currently overwhelmed with Covid patients. What difference would it have made who prescribes it, I knew what the problem was, I needed help because I was in agony. Very disappointed in this service and placed me between different services when I am in a huge amount of pain. Not good enough!!

As advised when you called us General Practice are not dentists and are instructed not to deal with dental issues. Help – in terms of alternative options – were shared. We appreciate you had pain and are pleased you found a source of pain control that might cover you until your dental issues are addressed.
