"Night staff attitude"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital / Older people's healthcare

(as a service user),

It seems like the nights shift down tools and do not do much work.

With my own eyes I watched a night nurse observe a man in his 80's drop his chocolate on the floor from his bed to which they just sat there right beside him as he struggled nearly falling off the bed trying to retrieve it. I think because it was dark, they didn’t think anyone was watching and just let him struggle. It was only when someone said something that it was picked up and given to him.

Shambolic. People’s lives are in their hands, and they have a total disregard like that. Along with many more stories I could mention.

Thank you for your feedback, which is very upsetting to read.

It is difficult, from your comments, to do anything to address your observations. However, we are keen to address any behaviour which does not show empathy or care to patients and we ask that, if witnessed at all, it is brought to the attention of the nurse in charge of the ward or department at the time so that the problem can be immediately addressed.

kindest regards,

The Patient Experience Team
