"Couldn't have gone better"

About: Musgrove Park Hospital / Gastroenterology Musgrove Park Hospital / General medicine

(as a service user),

I can't fault anything and the cleaners washed the floors 5 times a day, as well as all surfaces to be touched. The bedding was changed every day. Whenever someone left, they washed all the sheets and mattresses and threw away anything not to be reused. The food was pretty good as well.

The nurses treated me wonderfully. I had 2 procedures in the last fortnight, this one and a gastroscopy. That was when they suspected I had had a heart attack and they gave me 3 litres of blood. It really really was a good hospital, and there is nothing I can tell you which would make it any better. Everybody really looked after me. When they realised how low my blood count was, they gave me that first transfusion right then at 2 in the morning - but nobody minded at all, it couldn't have been a better service.

They actually washed me that second day because I was covered in quite a bit of blood because my cannula leaked. I have very funny veins, they are very thin, very wiggly, so I have a bruise on my arm now which must be 6" long and 4" wide, that's how much trouble they had getting the cannula in. But other than that, I couldn't believe it when they offered to wash me, it was like being in a hotel. Considering what is wrong with me, I wouldn't have any qualms about having any of the procedures again that I've had before.

The only thing that did annoy me, had nothing to do with the hospital. I had a covid test in the summer, and then one when I went into hospital, one when I came out, and I expect another next week for my next procedure. It was so hard to find the testing station, it was like a building site. There were no signs, and the postcode of the actual place didn't match the postcode we were given when we were told to go there. Just next to the little red cafe, up a few steps there was a very small sign saying 'NHS covid testing'

Dear mikeng69,

Thank you for the positive comments concerning service and cleanliness whilst you were in Musgrove Park Hospital.

You have also shared the difficulty in finding the testing station due to poor signage and the building works taking place. I will share this will the wider team to look at solutions.

I hope that you have fully recovered after your procedures

Regards

Phil
