"Incorrect prescription"

About: Harborne Medical Practice

Wanted to order a repeat prescription of my medication. The GP wanted to change it to a similar alternative due to concerns about clotting side effects (despite my risk being considerably low and I never had a problem with the original pill). I reluctantly agreed and went to Boots to collect my prescription. The first visit was unsuccessful as the GP hadn't sent it over electronically. The second visit (waiting time 20 minutes) and the pharmacist tells me that the medication has been discontinued! Surely the GP should have known this or at least checked before prescribing? 1 week after my appointment and I am still awaiting my medication. Very disappointed. Should have stuck with my original pill!

Thank you for taking the time to comment on our NHS choices page. If you want to discuss your concerns directly please do not hesitate to contact us directly. Unfortunately with the large number of medications we prescribe we do not get informed routinely of all medications that are discontinued. Your comment would suggest we were trying to be helpful and use a safer medication for you in the long-term although that can be frustrating when first changing.
