"A trip to A&E"

About: Musgrove Park Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

I went into musgrove A&E today after my daughter fell and hit her head causing me to pass out. We were both put into the paediatric room 1 so we were not sat in the waiting room. 

A staff member called Sophie came in, she made us aware she was training and the Doctor was busy so she took bloods and started the check up. Sophie was reassuring and spoke to us about her own experiences as a mother. This helped us relax about the situation. Sophie was so friendly and caring and really made us feel comfortable. She helped in any way she could and managed to speed up the process which meant we were not waiting around as long. When the Doctor got to us Sophie had completed most of the checks and passed the information to the doctor, this was all done off her own back. 

I really want to thank Sophie for making our experience today as good as it could have been. She is a valuable asset to the department and is the true meaning of caring.

Thank you so much for finding the time to write to us and thanking us for your care.I will make sure that Sophie is aware of your gratitude and kind words. As the Matron I cant tell you how proud I am to read this, thank you.

I do actually remember you and your family well as I saw you in at the front door of the emergency department. This front door role was started due to the pandemic for the safety of our patients and staff, helping to decide which environment is best for our patients to wait and support social distancing. I remember thinking that this is an occasion when you and your daughter really needed your partner present and Im pleased we were able to make this happen.
