"Lack of Communication. Disappointing "

About: Mount Vernon Hospital Site

My appointment letter stated that I would be called at 8.45am however, I was not actually called until 12.17pm. Then this was only after 2 phone calls to the call centre & a conversation with the doctor's secretary. She was quite abrupt me & informed me that my dr was off & another dr was running both clinics so it could be as late as 2pm before I would be called. This resulted in me having to clear an entire day's commitments. Cancer treatment is stressful enough without situations like this.

Patients are anxious enough & this does nothing to aid their anxiety levels.

I feel like my feelings or time were not a consideration. If the NHS can text to remind you of your appointment, then maybe it would be good practice to let patients know that their appointment is potentially running 5 hours late !

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry you had to wait for 5 hours for our telephone appointment. Appointment reminders are automated however any communication i.e. notification of delay would require a staff member to telephone. Due to staffing levels, it is not always possible to notify patients of delays on the day.
