Early miscarriage with surgical management.
Wishaw Early Pregnancy Assessment department were excellent in their care and compassion at our time of loss.
Due to covid rules I had to have a test 72 hours before surgery, which I am fine with. But that timeline fell on a weekend and the EPA unit was closed. That meant I had to attend for the test at maternity triage. When I got there, I was shown into a room with a labour bed and newborn cot. Given I was still carrying my baby who had died the week before and dealing with the grief and loss, putting me in this room to wait until a nurse was free to do the test was painful, distressing (I cried the whole time I was waiting) and insensitive to my situation.
I have heard that others have also experienced this.
To help other women to avoid this additional distress in this situation please could weekend covid tests on miscarriage patients be done in a consulting room, or really any room but a labour suite.
Thank you.
