Mum was admitted to A&E from home in September after GP suspected septic arthritis to left knee. Diagnosis at hospital was pseudo gout and mum was admitted to ward 15. A few days later mum became extremely unwell, she had developed pneumonia, had poor renal function, and liver function. She was also dehydrated. Due to the infection in her body she also presented with delirium. Speaking with staff ie nurses, doctors they expressed deep concern on mums condition. However, my sister ( who phoned twice a day for update ) nor myself were allowed to visit as essential visitors. We were able to phone and try to speak with mum on her mobile phone, she was very confused, disoriented and her speech was thick and slurred.
On the morning in October my sister phoned night shift as usual for an update, was told no patient of mums name was in that ward (she had been there for 3weeks) It would appear she had been moved and night shift staff did not know this. Why during these difficult times were we as family not informed. Surely someone could have taken 2 minutes to make a phone call. We eventually found out mum was moved to ward 28 but was told it was still part of ward 15, that it was only across a small bridge. We have now found out that ward 28 is in a completely different block and is in fact the same block that has the wards closed due to Covid 19.
Is this a Reumatology Ward the same as ward15 ?? I don’t know. I am extremely worried and concerned for my mum, when you go into hospital with a sore knee and end up in the condition she is in I think I have every reason to be. The staff in ward 28 don’t know her and probably think she has dementia which she most definitely does not have. They just keep telling us she’s fine which she clearly is not.
