"Oban midwives"

About: Lorn & Islands Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I really want to sing the praises of Oban maternity unit midwives and staff.

This was my second pregnancy. After my first birth being complicated, I was anxious about the birth of my second baby.

From the very beginning Elayne (my named midwife) made me feel supported, cared for and listened to. This was important to me and enabled me to feel confident and at ease throughout my pregnancy. I must add that any complications that arose throughout my pregnancy, Elayne gave me lots of reassurance and respected decisions that I made.

Elayne reassured me that she do her very best to be there for my labour and she was. This made a huge difference having someone with me that I was familiar with and felt comfortable with. Her professionalism, friendliness and calmness immediately made me feel at ease during the labour. Hannah was also there and together her and Elayne made sure I was as relaxed as possible. Together they complemented each other during my time in the unit. I really couldn’t have asked for two better midwives at my labour, an experience that will stay with me for the rest of my life. They both gave me the greatest gift I could ask for - my baby and a positive birthing experience- thank you

Dear Oban123

Congratulations on the birth of your baby.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write about your positive experience of maternity care in Oban.

So lovely to read about what sounds like a very special relationship with Elayne, as well as the teamwork between Elayne and Hannah with you at the birth.

I will make sure that Elayne and Hannah are aware of how much you appreciated their support.

Wishing you and your family the very best for the future.

Kindest regards

Fiona

Hi there Oban123, I am delighted to hear that you had such a positive birth experience. It sounds like you had a great relationship with Elayne as your Primary midwife. In Argyll and Bute we strive to work in partnership with our women and families to provide a safe and supportive service with continuity underpinning this. This has proved even more important during the last few months of Covid.

Enjoy this time with with your baby and I'm sure Elayne will look forward to seeing you out and about in Oban

Best wishes, Catriona
