"No patient dignity or respect and unsafe practice "

About: The Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

On admission to ward 47 of the RVI I was shown no dignity or respect by the nurse admitting me, who did not close the curtains round whilst asking me questions, instead standing in the middle of a 6-bedded bay asking me the reason for my admission. There were 3 other patients present and yet the nurse decided there was no need to afford me any privacy, which I was shocked at. At one point a ward sister came to change a dressing and I was visibly upset, yet she showed no kindness or concern and just ignored my upset. 3 hours after being in theatre for around 3 hours, I was told I was medically fit for discharge. Living alone, with no one to be there with me once home, discharging a person after a general anaesthetic to be on their own is deemed unsafe by professional standards. However, I was discharged regardless of this. No consideration was given to the management of my pain either. I've always rated the RVI very highly, though this experience definitely doesn't match their 'outstanding' CQC rating.
