"Rules on social distancing are not being enforced"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Maternity

(as a service user),

I am currently sat outside Princess Alexandra Wing waiting for my wife who is seeing on an call midwife due to a pregnancy complication. Understandably I cannot attend with her which is distressing for both of us but I understand why.

Whilst I have been sat here, I have seen countless families, couples, partners etc all go in together. Why do you have a single person attending policy if it isn't being enforced? There is a guard at the door letting them in.

If you are going to have a policy that severely detriments certain people then you need to properly enforce it.

Dear Hdhdhdhdhdhdiwb,

Thank you for taking the time to share your story with us, please firstly accept my apologies for the delay in responding to you. I was very sorry to read that you were unable to be with your wife at such a distressing time and that you witnessed countless families attending the unit while you waited outside.

The Kapar security team have been employed by the Trust to help keep our staff, patients and visitors safe while they attend our hospital during the Covid Pandemic. The team have been given clear instructions which have been taken from national guidelines and vetted and agreed by our Incident Control Centre. Some of the visiting restrictions vary from differing patient circumstance, so some families, vulnerable adults, minors, those with disabilities are allowed to be accompanied for obvious reasons while our other patients are not allowed to be accompanied.

Unfortunately, we will be unable to ascertain whether or not the visitors you saw entering the Princess Alexander Maternity wing were allowed to attend under the circumstances listed above, but I will share your story with the Kapar security team along with our Contract Monitoring team here at the Trust to ensure the visitor restrictions continue to be adhered to.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your story with us.

Best wishes,

Paul Dixon
