"A lump in the breast"

About: Grantham & District Hospital / General medicine

(as the patient),

Found a lump, managed to get appointment with nurse practitioner who thought it would most likely a cyst. Got referred for a scan, appointment came through within two weeks. I was examined and sent for mammogram and biopsy as well as a scan as lump was a solid mass and a fair size.

Result appointment a week later. Surgery suggested as lump had the potential to grow and mutate and become harmful, pre op appointment a couple of weeks later.  drive thru covid swab then surgery this week. Follow up appointment for histology results in three weeks time.

At my surgery appointment on this week I was very anxious and my allocated Nurse Jane at Grantham EAU was lovely and helped to keep me calm and informed throughout my day stay... In fact, the whole team were lovely and professional and compassionate even down to the housekeeping staff - can't thank them enough given how difficult things are on the current pandemic

Dear Anxious in Lincolnshire

Many thanks for the lovely words and I will tell Jane who looked after you and she will be thrilled to have been personally mentioned. I am so pleased you had such a good experience as this is a very anxious time for you and your family and you have gone through a lot of worry over the situation, so if we have made that part of it less anxious then we have done our job well. Fingers crossed for the results which will also be a long 3 weeks waiting for you but from myself and the whole team we will be hoping that you get good news from the histology.

Kind regards and take care

Julie

Update posted by Anxious in Lincolnshire (the patient)

Thank you Julie,

Yes, it is an anxious wait but I am healing well and following the instructions and guidance given on my discharge.... in fact I had a phone call from the Unit in Lincoln on Friday to check up on me that all was well - which I thought was very nice, and to confirm the date and time of my follow up appointment... they were also able to answer a question for me...

My biggest worry was the thought of the general/being put to sleep and my anxieties were answered every step of the way.. being "first on the list" meant that everything happened quickly and I did not have a lot of time to worry/dwell on things.... the whole team were lovely and caring and professional and I am grateful to them all... I consider myself "lucky" to be in the system so quickly and being seen in these uncertain times... and I hope that you are able to pass on my thanks to Jane.

Kind regards, x
