"Great compassionate care"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Oral surgery

(as the patient),

I am a staff member working in the Trust and I just wanted to thank the staff in Oral Surgery who I feel delivered an excellent service and great care to me.

Earlier this week, I was admitted for a procedure under local sedation.  I am a very anxious patient and have a phobia when it comes to teeth coming out (hence being referred for sedation!) I was collected by the lovely and bubbly Emma who immediately put my mind at rest. She could see I was extremely anxious at that point and was so reassuring it helped to calm my nerves.

I was introduced to Mr Ioannou, Consultant Surgeon, who explained clearly what would be happening and then visited by the Consultant Anaesthetist Dr William, who with a great sense of humour, was fantastic at making me feel I was in great hands and was going to be ok and explained step by step what was happening.

The procedure took only minutes but the whole team involved in the theatre were so professional especially with all the extra Covid measures in place and made me feel like I wasn't silly for feeling so anxious.

A special shout out to Janice, the nurse in Recovery.  She was absolutely amazing and so kind to me.  It was so nice having someone so friendly to talk to afterwards and she was so attentive, nothing was a rush or too much hassle.

Having felt ill with nerves for the days leading up to the procedure, the care delivered on the day was thoroughly compassionate and I felt as a patient,  I really was put at the centre of everything and that my comfort was ensured throughout.

Staff don't often get recognised when they have done a good job so I wanted to take the time to say to my colleagues at the Trust, thank you, you really made a difference!

Thank you for sharing such kind and positive words about the team in our Oral Surgery Department. Anxiety and phobias can be normal for many of our patients and I know that your heartfelt message will inspire the team to continue the brilliant work that they do on an ongoing basis.

As you will know the NHS and it's teams are experiencing significant pressure and I will ensure that your kind words are shared with my team mates and the wider team; these messages mean a lot and contribute to the motivation we have to provide our patients and their families with compassionate care during these time.

With kind regards

Ian Moyle-Browning, Head of Nursing - Specialist Services & Surgery
