Due to Covid restrictions you need to queue outside, which can be a while and in all weathers but it shows how seriously the department take the Covid situation and protecting staff and patients. Perhaps a gazebo could be considered as the weather worsens.
I went with a haematoma under my toe. All the staff were incredibly kind and thorough . The department is really clean and efficient. Service is slow but this is due to patient numbers, service constraints and I believe because the medical really take their time with each patient. I used to be a nurse and the values and specialisms here feel like what I initially went into nursing for. It really is a lovely community hospital and deserves much more appreciation financially and locally. I’m a stay at home mum and I was really scared to go out in the Covid crisis. Although the restrictions are frustrating I am really impressed how the hospital as a whole are enforcing social distancing, mask wearing and hand gel. There is a a really kind and friendly security guard who helps as much as possible. I saw him getting chairs for the elderly and poorly. I’m sure if they had the space inside patients would not have to queue outside. I recommended a folding gazebo that can be put away when the hospital is closed. Also larger signs about where to and why to queue outside would be helpful.
Thanks to the staff who resolved my haematoma, to the radiology department and the HCA who burnt a hole in my toe- it was part of the procedure and the relief has been immense.
Prepare for a long wait, unfortunately this is the nature of our NHS at present combined with Covid restrictions but you will get excellent care from my experience.
