"Lack of access to treatment"

About: The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust / Neurology

(as a service user),

My involvement with the Walton Centre began just over 2 years ago.   Given an organic neurological diagnosis, thankfully not terminal and I commenced a longterm treatment plan. I  prepared for returning to work and resuming fun activities with my 10 year old daughter.   The treatment didn't work. My physical symptoms worsened, my mood plummeted due to feeling I was drifting further away from my goals.   I was told there was no funding for me to access psychology services though I desperately needed someone to talk to and help me - I had responsibilities and had to keep going. Instead, I saw a neuropsychiatrist once who verbally assured me I would improve, discharged me and farmed me out for 'evaluation' at a psychiatric hospital.

I was subjected to intrusive questions, and to add insult to injury, asked why I couldn't be treated by psychology at Walton centre as surely they would better understand my neurological condition.  Thankfully, I was discharged although I now have that inappropriate referral on my health records. Stuck in no man's land. Repeat EMGs have only muddied the waters. My neurologist tells me my symptoms are 'psychological', that I can improve and to continue talking to my church pastor.   I am utterly lost. I have had to  self-fund physio/psychotherapy out of dwindling savings but I have learnt to my cost, that getting the right kind of care is like searching for a needle in a haystack. I used to be a strong, independent person working full time, but now rarely leave the house.   Every day, staring out of the window watching others lives go forwards - my life over.   I have tried and tried, all too aware of people with life threatening illnesses, I have fought to improve.  But I have no faith in the Walton Centre now.
