My brother was admitted to of the Institute of Neurological Sciences at the QEU Hospital, Glasgow.
He had emergency surgery to remove a brain tumour and then suffered complications. He has been in surgery , the ward and both ICU and HDU. Due to current restrictions we can't physically visit with him. Due to his illness and surgery he is unable to speak and can't coordinate his hands to hold the "Virtual Visiting" iPad.
We feel in these circumstances digital visiting is completely inadequate. He cannot tell us if he is in distress, cannot call out for aid, cannot communicate whatsoever. We do not know if he understands where he is or what has happened to him. He has been in this position for a few weeks now and its causing distress.
The hospital staff, surgeons, consultants, nurses, have all been wonderful, but the corona Virus visiting restrictions are a cruel punishment. For him and for us.
