"Dermatology appointments via phone calls"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Dermatology

(as the patient),

Been attending dermatology since last August  never missed a appointment in present attended all treatment  then came covid 19 and telephone calls which personally I find a waste of time as they saw my skin problems in person and only gave me mild steroid cream which I only got 30 grams at a time of.

I was unable to take time off my work to receive periodical phone calls now I have been refused further treatment. I feel this is a shocking way to treat patients during covid 19.

Dear Jonny rad

I am very sorry to hear of your negative experience of the Dermatology service. At the height of the pandemic the Dermatology service was extremely limited as many of the staff were redeployed to the front line and we have only recently started to get our service re-established. I completely understand your frustration at not being seen in person at the Dermatology clinic and this is due to some of the restrictions that are in place because of Covid 19. We are trying to work in new ways with telephone consultations and looking into using video consultations as another way of "seeing" patients to reduce the risk to both patients and staff but you are right that this is less than ideal.

30 grams of steroid cream will not last if your is skin condition is extensive and I would suggest that you contact your GP surgery who will be able to prescribe a larger amount for you.

I am sorry if it was not made clear that your telephone consultation could have been rescheduled if the time or date was unsuitable due to work commitments.. Appointments or the Dermatology secretaries would be able to arrange this.

Please accept my apologies and if you would be willing to speak to me I can get further details of your experience to see if there is anything further I can do, contact me on 01563 827923.
