"Face coverings at reception"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Radiology (X-rays and Scans)

(as a service user),

The security staff on the door were helpful and friendly.   I went to the out patients xray department where the reception staff were very helpful but I noticed they weren't wearing any face masks and wonder why this was? There were 2 people behind the desk with no face coverings.   The staff who carried out the screening were lovely and the whole experience was almost enjoyable.   A credit to the NHS.   But why no face coverings in the reception?

Thank you for taking the time to get it touch with us. It is lovely to hear your positive feedback on both the security staff on the door and the radiographers who carried out your screening. The reception staff do not wear masks as per Scottish guidelines, so long as they are adequately spaced there is no requirement to wear face coverings. We are very lucky in In Patient Radiology to have a large reception area which allows us to adhere to the social distancing guidelines.
