"Awaiting a Manometry Test in Glasgow"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Endoscopy

(as the patient),

I have been waiting for a Manometry Test for Achalasia for over one year now in Glasgow.   My surgeon wants the result of this test to know how best to operate or Treat me. I don’t know for sure. the reason for the delay. I am told it is a low priority procedure In doing any Manometry compared to e. g. cancer and that it might be due to delays in respect of Staff Safety due to Aerosol procedure being involved, but I just do not know whether it is worth complaining and if so to whom and on what basis.

Hello C2reOpinion,

Thank you for sharing your experiences with us and I apologise that you have been running into these issues with regards to a Manometry Test. In regards to Aerosol producing procedures there was a halt placed on non-emergency procedures during COVID-19 due to increased infection risk.

In this instance you would be best to discuss the delays with your consultant and clinic staff responsible for requesting the testing, if you have already discussed your case with them and feel like you have not gotten an response that you are happy with, then a formal complaint may be your best route at this time.

A complaint could be made via complaints@ggc.scot.nhs.uk with more information available at this address https://www.nhsggc.org.uk/get-in-touch-get-involved/complaints/ alternatively the Patient Advice and Support Service can provide advice and support https://www.cas.org.uk/pass

Kind Regards

Paul

Thanks for a reply. Rather than a protracted formal complaint, I was trying to establish where the holdup was and the criteria used I,e, the committee or chief officer where the decision lies. My surgeon has already discussed this with me and is anxious for test results - he suggested that I complain. If the original delay is no longer due to faulty equipment (broken catheter) not being replaced due to funding issues, and is now due to staff safety issues as you suggest, I should like to see the details of the Risk Asssessment which applies to Manometry Tests and Endoscopy and any moves to review this, as I imagine I am not the only person whose procedures are being held up.

Thank you.
