I was admitted to the maternity ward on July 21st 2020. I was in labour for almost 24 hours. Up until the time it was time to start pushing, all the midwifes and the doctors were absolutely lovely. however the last midwife who was on shift during my labour disappointed me. It looked like she was sleepy and that it was unfortunate she had the night shift and had to be there.
When it was time to start pushing, she didn't tell me how I should breathe in order to be able to push effectively (I am a first time mum), she basically was telling me to inhale and not to exhale and I was crying and telling her that I cannot keep my breath for too long and she should tell me how to do it. Thankfully my partner was present and he was able to support me because she wasn't helpful at all. And finally when I gave birth, of course she took the baby to clean it and prepare it but she didn't give it to me until after 20min. I hadn't seen my baby at all, because she took him as soon as he was out and placed him across the room and I didn't even make eye contact. I waited patiently as she was writing down her notes in my maternity book but after 10min I said to her can I please have my baby and her response was, will you do all of this for me write down the notes and clean the baby? Finally 20min after I had given birth and while I was painfully longing to see my baby, she finally gave him to me. that was horrible!
"Good experience overall but bittersweet end"
