"Ante/Postnatal, labour and delivery"

About: Dr Gray's Hospital / Maternity care Raigmore Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

At 37 weeks pregnant I attended a weekly growth scan at Dr grays hospital to be told my blood pressure was too high and a possible cause may be pre eclampsia. I was monitored and assessed on ward 3 with great care and attention from all midwives and my consultant Dr Ali. Unfortunately at the time, ARI was extremely busy and was unable to accept me as a transfer. I was then transferred to Raigmore Hospital and with Raigmore being a different health board I was unsure how this would effect me.

Once assessed and prompt treatment started at Raigmore I was told because of the different health board I would possibly have to be transferred to ARI for induction. This was disappointing to hear as I had already completed the commute to Raigmore whilst feeling very unwell.

However I was told I could remain at Raigmore for the birth of my child.
My induction ended up in an emergency c section but the whole process from start to finish was seamless and fantastic care. I was kept fully informed of every intervention and my husband and I really appreciated the surgeon (Karen I think) visiting us for a quick debrief after the birth incase we had any questions.

I would like to thank all staff from ward 3 at DGH, and all staff at Raigmore on wards 9a,10,labour and delivery and everyone in theatre. My son was also diagnosed with a birth defect the next day and promptly referred to a neurosurgeon the same morning.

My only recommendation would be that if reduced services are to continue at DGH, more women from moray should be allowed to have the option to give birth at Raigmore. With the shorter commute it made my whole experience less stressful and a more positive experience.

Good afternoon newmum2020

Firstly let me thank you for taking the time to tell us about your recent experience.

I am sorry you had such confusing information, both before your transfer and again once you arrived at Raigmore hospital. I will ensure that your feedback is shared with our colleagues in Raigmore to ensure this confusing information does not happen again and also to inform them of the positive care you received during the birth of your son.

Your positive feedback will also be shared with Dr Ali, the scan department and the team on ward 3.

I have also taken note of your suggestions for our ongoing service, this is an area we continue to discuss.

Congratulations on the birth of your baby boy, I am glad you received prompt investigation from the neurosurgeon and wish you and your family well for the future.

Best wishes

Tracy
